(Ed. note: While preparing the next Big Post, I’ve come across a couple of gems from around the Net that I thought would be of interest to you. I’ll sandwich them in between “Big Posts” and hope you find them as valuable as I did.)
To Busy to Pick Up a Book?
Over at CrossWalk.com, you’ll find a helpful article that rings true and will prove valuable to a lot of busy moms.
Kym Wright, a well-known author and speaker, discusses the plight of the busy mom who loves to read but can barely find time to open a book, let alone finish it. Could this be you?
Kym shares her method of how she gets that reading, and a lot more, done. It all made sense to me and I’ll bet a lot of you will appreciate it. (I’d also wager a lot of you have also discovered your own clever ways to turn the pages; I would love to hear from you!)
The Miracle of Reading
Here’s a story the likes of which we know well at Alpha-Phonics: a case of adult illiteracy and how the gift of reading saved and irrevocably changed a life for the good.
Rochelle Riley is a columnist at the Detroit Free Press. A couple of weeks ago she wrote the story of three miracles in a man’s life. One of them was how learning to read changed his life and, as a consequence, the lives of countless people around him. I urge you to read about Derrick Gilford, 49, and those miracles. Ms. Riley quotes him:
“I was just sitting there,” Gilford recalled. “All my friends that I grew up with, girls that I grew up with. … And God called me. I stood up and said, ‘I’m fixing to go get saved.’ They flipped out because they thought I lost my mind. I left everything. I left my money, drugs, my car. I walked away and caught a cab to my grandmother’s house.”
Head on over to the Free Press and read this inspiring story!
(Among the many reasons we love and believe in Alpha-Phonics so much is because it is as appropriate for adults as it is for kids. No cartoon characters, no nonsense, just efficient and effective instruction!)
